What I'm Listening To: Nothing Left to Lose, Matt Kearney

Every now and then I challenge myself to shoot inside my home and find interseting things in my everyday surroundings.

Here are my blinds. I mess with them at least three times a day...sometimes more. I have wanted to capture these somehow but had not gotten around to it yet. Another blogger and friend, Carmi, photographed his blinds (see his post titled Tassels his link is below) and so I knew it was time for me to give it a try. Carmi and I have a similiar photographic eye so I was curious to see our different perspectives on the same subject. And the polite blogger that I am, I made sure he didn't mind. Thankfully, he said he was looking forward to seeing my take.

I have this thing for lines in photos which I have written about at length before. Over the past couple of days, I have taken about a million pictures of these blinds. Up close, far away...there were so many to choose from. I like this one because I almost always do close up and this was different. For me, the lines, the reflections, the lighting...it all working. I love the faint shadow in the corner between the blind and the window...

What have you admired lately that isnt as ordinary as you first thought? Please share.

I really like this picture. I love the shadows on the frame of the blinds. My mind is picturing you taking tons of pictures of this before picking one that really hits you...and I always love your words! Love, Mom

I love the softness of your photography.

I think your photography really mimics your character; soft, light, thoughtful, and unique.

And thank you for your support with my anonymous commenter. I can understand constructive criticism, but I don't see why someone would make sarcastic and condescending comments about someone else's perspective behind the security of an internet alias.

Some people really must have self-insecurities that they try to pin on others.

So thank you, you are a great friend (even if it is via internet)

I like the very same things as you about your picture of the blinds. The angles and shadows and sepia tone are great.
I was in the big box store Home Depot to get things for our update on our kitchen. I didn't have my camera or I would have taken pictures of the rows of hinges and drawer pulls.Great lines and series of things. It was a artful "picture"

Anna that is a very comforting photo. I say that a lot when describing your work, but it is a fit description.

Admiration of the ordinary...hmmmm....ok, this one will sound a bit goofy but I drive a Ford F150 pick up truck. It has a step bed and I enjoy the curve of the truck body where it goes in to make room for the step. It is very smooth and the proportions are just....right.

I had my blinds cord in mind for a future PAD shot, even tried it once. Then Carmi beat me to it, and today you included blinds! I like yours a lot--just the right time of day. (I'll still probably do the cord or blinds someday)

Anna, you have secured your place in history. I will never again see anything with parallel lines without thinking immediately of you!

I like this one; the light reflection on the window frame to the left is very nice.

I like the combination of color, light and shadow you ended up with.

Isn't it funny how you know there is a good picture in something and can shoot away in different ways until you find that balance you were looking for.

Wonderful light and lines; I really like how the mundane and everyday can take on a whole new appearance through a photograph. Well seen!

Someone told me you like lines. My mom has an antique end table and the base looks almost like a harp with three rods funning vertically. I saw it with the table light casting a golden glow behind the area and it felt very geometric with the lines and curves...

    Great picture.

    lovely light and colour....

this is a wierd answer, but people who take away our rubbish (bin men as we used to say when we were kids) - we take them for granted and they seem so ordinary, but what a job - i mean would we do it?

I like the color and lighting and lines.

I often walk by or drive by something I've seen dozens of times and suddenly I see something different in it and wonder how I missed it before. The moss on the chimney outside the office where I work I posted yesterday for instance. How could I not have seen that beautiful moss there without it being pointed out to me??

That is so weird you posted this, because just last night I was looking for "Corners of my Home" to photograph, much in the similar way you did with the blinds. I like the idea of looking for spots in my home that may just be "ordinary", but can be very beautiful.
    Thanks!

As you know, I like shots like this. I also like the color arrangement on this one. There is a calming effect, it's almost uplifting. Like the dawn of a new day.

BTW: My scanner should be arriving today! The black and whites will be up sometime this weekend. Also, My Canon AE-1P had to go to the shop - it will be gone for a week to ten days. Although I have enough film shot to last me, I didn't want to go without a 35mm that long, so I bought an old Canon A-1 - cheap. It blows the AE-1P away... a much better camera that uses every single lens and accessory for the AE-1P - and it came with an auto-winder. SWEET!

Anna this is very nice, Ilike the natural golden light and the way you have captured all of the lines and angles, giving it the depth that you see nicely.

Carmi is a great inspiration, unfortunately for him sometimes his posts get me to thinking and I end up posting long blurbs on his blog LOL. He is also very talented as you have said, as are you, you just have a great eye for stuff that I wouldnt normally look at.

    Come on spring!!! Keep warm.

Great photo! The color is so rich. Thanks for sharing the flowers, as well. When I can't view your blog each day, I feel like I'm missing something. Thank you for being obedient to Him by using the talent He's given you.

I love the ethereal spirit of this photo, Anna. There's a mystery associated with window coverings, especially when they can be opened or closed in a variable way.

Looks like I've got my inspiration to spend more time shooting my blinds, too. I suspect this may become a theme!

What's funny is, the minute I saw this one I thought, those look very similar to the shades in Carmi's "Tassels".

Love the photo, and the blue door.
