OK....so I don't feel any older....

That is good.

My birthday has been great and thanks to all of you who commented yesterday with all your birthday wishes to me. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all your thoughts to me. It seems as though I have a lot of blogging friends that are 29 (again) as well as me. I love to know that I am not alone. Beverly said it best in her comment...I am celebrating the 6th anniversary of my 29th birthday! YAY! I am SO using that next year (and each year after that)...so thanks Beverly...

I am using these images from the many days of wandering in the city when our family was here with us the last few days. In all the posts I have done, I have never posted an image of Big Ben. I know there was a real part of me that didn't want to be cliche by photographing it...I mean, everyone and their mother takes pictures of it right?!?! No one comes to London and doesnt end up sharing a slide or two of it!

So I was thinking today....I am a year older, a year bolder...time to share.

I was really happy with how these shots came out so I decided this was the time. I do hope you like my perspective here and that they don't bore you to tears. I have always loved standing underneath this massive structure. It is so ornate from the very bottom to the tip top. The chimes ring out across the city with sounds that are unmistakeable and unique. It gives me chills just thinking of it.

Have a good one all!

Great angle and then great framing. Just great shots, really.

You are, indeed, making a good case for visiting London, if it wasn't already on my list.

I love the framing on that second one.

Anna, your perspective is never cliche! I love the shots of Big Ben and the wrought-iron fence too!

Well, I have to echo everyone else and say the framing is great and I would love to visit London too. Your shots of Big Ben are not the usual touristy angles. Good stuff.

Just yesterday I was reading an article about photographing something that has been done zillions of times before (in the case of the article, it was the Grand Canyon). The challenge is to present it in new ways that communicates the emotion of seeing it in person. Everyone knows what Big Ben looks like - what did you feel seeing it up close? I think you did a good job of communicating that in your photos. I ain't easy, is it?

Great shots as ever! I really like the first one though, the way the sun is cutting through the trees and the perspective is fab! Did you know that Big Ben is actually the name of the bell inside the clock tower?, and you are so right about it's unmistakeable chime.

Happy belated birthday for yesterday!

So glad you liked my comment. As you know, I'm much older than you. I have a friend here who, when talking about her upcoming birthday, said that she was going to be forty-sixteen. Well, I'm fifty-fifteen...You can keep avoiding those numbers forever. But truly, I'm grateful for each day God gives me.

When I was in London many years ago, I found my camera cumbersome and didn't take many photos...mostly bought postcards. If I were there again, it would be a totally different experience. I've picked up lots of ideas for looking at things from a different from perspective by reading your blog and those of others.

Wow, they're both great, but that top one is incredible when enlarged. Really dynamite.

I was just saying to Mike that I like black and white photos (this is sepia, right?). I like sepia, too, mainly because the subject seems to stand out more. I especially like the picture of Big Ben through the gate. Nice shot!

You should be rightly proud of these Big Ben shots!
Don't be afraid of the 30s. I loved my 30s. I have to say the 40s are pretty good too. Hmm, not too sure how I'll feel about 50s though...

My feet are firmly planted in the middle of my thirties! I just dont like numbers....and I FEEL like I am in my twenties....hopefully I always will! :)

Cool set. The building is beautiful no matter how you shoot it, but the top framing reminds me of an old water tower in the town I grew up in. I remember standing at the foot of the tall structure with my dad when I was very young. He told me to look up and see how the movement of the clouds made it look like the tower was falling over on us. I looked and startled...almost cried. I got up my courage and looked again and just marveled at the illuison.

And then to follow that shot with a miniturized version is a neat effect.
