BBQ Time!

What I'm Listening To: Goodbye Girl by Squeeze
With the temperatures in the mid 70's today in London, we were thrilled to be invited to dinner with friends of ours here who are also from the US. We opted to grill out hot dogs and hamburgers and have a good ol' American style dinner! We had some homemade dishes like BBQ baked beans and potato salad. YUM! It was topped off by roasting some "imported" marshmallows over the barbeque pit. All the kids had a blast.
When spring comes each year, I am pretty sensitive to everything that changes around me. For instance, there is something about the smell of the grill going, the blankets spread out on the grass, and the nice breeze in the air. It relaxes me almost immediately. I have noticed being here, little things can bring on a flood of memories about home. I was remembering how my dad always was grilling as I grew up. Even today, he grills all the time and it's such a wonderful memory of growing up for me...
You can imagine looking at this pic, the smell drew me in so I snuck a peek with my camera as our dinner was being cooked. And this image came out delicious I think! Can you smell them? I still can. I must give props to Matt, our chef who was manning the grill this evening. You've got some mad grillin' skillz! :)
Take care everyone.

we did the same when my parents were in....doesn't get much better than hamburgers on the grill.....
I love how a photo can invoke the sense of smell. Yes, I can smell the charcoal, and taste the burgers as well. Mmmmmm.
Ahhh! Nothing like the smell of grilling meat! This photo would do well as a stock photo. It's making me hungry just looking at it!
Mmmmm I wish I had been at your house today!! :o) Lovely image, I can almost taste the burgers too!! :o)
Ever since I met your parents, 37 years ago, the thing I remember most about your dad is that he grilled almost every night. I remember seeing him stand outside and grill under an umbrella when it was raining, or in the snow. I couldn't believe anyone used the grill in the winter - but he did (and does). And he is GREAT at it!!
Judy, you are so right....I can see him out there now with an umbrella in the snow! Aaahhhh....good times. :) Thanks for sharing that.
What wonderful memories of family and friends. I'm so glad you can visit wwith friends and enjoy your grilling. This is a great shot. Makes my mouth water. Baked beans with it sound just right. Yummmm.
Mid 70s??? OOOOh you lucky people. Here in Canada it's still cold and MORE SNOW forecast overnight, which is rediculous cos it's mid-April, for goodness sake, doesn't the weather man realise that???
The BBQ looks great, save me a well done burger, I don't really like hot dogs.
Now this is an inviting shot. It is one of those that stimulates all your senses! Smell, taste, sight. Sensations of extreme warmth. Terrific capture.
The wedding shots went pretty good today. It was actually fun. Still have to get used to taking people pictures.
Glad its warm there. It is still freezing here and the warm glow of the grill is the most appealing thing about your picture today. Thanks for sharing it! It added much warmth to a cold Missouri day.
Great shot. The perfect finisher would be a Dairy Queen Blizzard, which my wife and I both just enjoyed (our boy is at his grammy's).
Ugh. We're full. How does anyone ever eat more than a small?
Hey Anna, really great subject today, looks delicious. Didn't know I'd developed such a rep with my grilling especially after reading KENJU's comments. You do what you gotta do when you fail to pay the light bill. Love, Dad
great shot - it's 4am, is it so wrong to want a dog and a beer right now!!!????
Mmmm. That looks good.
Mike
Thank you for leaving the comment, correcting my answer to Jam, it is indeed the British Museum. You know how uncultured us Aussies are ha ha. I should have got my book out. Spent 9 months in the UK, and at the time thought I would never forget where and what the places were. Loved the Museum.
oh goodness!
this picture reminds me of grilling out in my backyard almost everyday over the summer.
its those clear nights where those not bug in the air and not a cloud in the sky.
the nights where you decide to eat out on the patio and enjoy the scenery.
then go for a dip in the pool, or run through the sprinkler......
thanks for the moment Anna :)
There's a flame in that grill, Anna. That's the way my barbecues always look too - and I've been told that means I just am in too big a hurry to cook and eat.
Happy Day to you!

This photo is getting me HUNGRY! Nice photo for sure, and thanks for stopping by my blog...I'm so glad your boys enjoy it. Keep dropping by, I'll try to be more "regular"!
Oh now this just isn't fair! It's cold and rainy and windy today here in Alabama....no grilling for Sarch and family.
Those dogs and burgers look SO GOOD!
I'm with you Anna, the smell of the grill is one of the most comforting things I can think of.
By the way, you're invited to my blog for a snack and some conversation.
thx anna. you take great picts. may you and john know God's peace tonight.
there were almost as yummy as the pic!! hope you had a good day today... it's beautiful night tonight. enjoy jenn xx
looks GREAT, Anna :) Hope you enjoyed it :)
Those certainly do look yummy! It has been a busy weekend. The Nyssa came down from William and Mary to see her uncle and she must not have done laundry since she was home at spring break... five loads... what has she been wearing?
I did roast asparagus and broccoli with Parmesan cheese and they were scrumptious but right now the winds and rain are too much to grill out. Temps dropped this evening from 75 down to 45 in a matter of two hours as the big storm went through. Winter tries to hang on.
The pic's delectable...Yummm!!!! :D
Hum, I bet that was good. I think the winnies you use for barbecue there are so tasty, at least they were in the US and I can't get them here!!!
