What I'm Listening To: Go (Acoustic) by Hanson

We have spent the last 32 hours traveling by rail. When I shared that we were having some special time with our daughter Sadie, I didn't tell you that we surprised her by taking her to a concert in Newcastle, England. It is three hours there by train so we headed out early yesterday morning. The three of us had such a great time together.

We were excited to see Hanson in concert. They started their week and a half long tour of the UK last week and played at The Journal Tyne Theatre. It has been preserved beautifully over the years and is the oldest working Victorian theatre in the world. And the story goes, all the bands who come through here to play, warm up in the bathroom because the acoustics are so good.

What a refreshing time to just sit back and listen to three truly exceptional musicians. The fact that we can take our daughter and not have to worry about foul language and inappropriate role models is such a nice relief these days. I like when music can stand on its own and there is no shock value to get your attention. It was an intimate crowd of about 400 people. John and I saw U2 in Philly back in 2005 and there were 20,000 people there. Obviously, that was awesome but this smaller venue was just perfect for the type of band they are. It is like they are sitting in your living room for a jam session. They also do a lot of acoustic which I like a lot.

You can click here to see their website and link to listen to the single that they just released in the UK from the anticipated upcoming album, The Walk, on their indie label. Definitely take a few minutes to check them out if you are a music lover, you won't be disappointed.

I am going to do our trip over a few posts. Ends up that I got some shots that I like quite a bit and would like to share with you all. Hopefully when I am done you can get a good feel for our trip.

I snapped these first two in the early hours at Kings Cross Station in London. I couldn't take my eyes off the huge window that was pouring light in from outside. I liked the way this top shot looked with the dirty skylights as well. A bit later, I watched as a pigeon flew onto the window sash and hung out there for a bit. I love how quiet that image looks despite the chaotic atmosphere that it was found.

Click to enlarge and enjoy. :)

Did you say 32 hours?

The windows with the pigeon realy catch my attention. Some of these rail shots make me think of Harry Potter :)

How wonderful to be able to be in an intimate setting like that to hear Hanson. Your links didn't work for me...maybe it's my computer again.

Anna, that sounds like such a wonderful time together. I love those special times so much. Thanks for checjing in on me. We're doing pretty good. Just have to get the range hood and a little trim up in the kitchen and it will be done at last. That will all happen on Monday when our son's brother in law can work for us.
Don't ever become a collector. We have thousands of pieces of Disney. I have been buried in the closet for 2 days....
I will post pictures of all of that on Monday.
So miss the blogging world. Soon and very soon.

I like the top photo best. It is an interesting abstract.

I've only been on a train once. I rode the Metroliner between Philadelphia and Washington D.C. way back in 1976. I think it's a great way to travel.

those two photos DO give off a peaceful and "quiet" feel....you'd never know all that hustle an bustle was going on around you.

sound like a wonderful outing with sadie..... something she'll treasure, for sure. being one of four sisters, i never got alone time with my parents. i think it is wonderful that you are making time for this...especially at such a pivotal age....

Great pics, as usual. I love interior shots with blinding light shining through windows.

I wish that in American we had a decent rail system. There is a commuter train here that runs into Dallas, but I arrive at work before I even reach the nearest stop.

I really like the photos. The top one has lots of interest, but I like the bottom one best. I think it's the bird.

My oldest daughter (21) went to Orlando last year to pick up a friend that lives there and went to a meet and greet with Hanson on the campus of University of Central Florida. The concert was at the House of Blues and they got to speak with them again there. She came home like a giddy 13 year old. See, she was that age when Hanson first had hits, but now the guys are grown and she said the concert was AMAZING. People still make fun of MmmBop, but they and their music have matured. Glad y'all got to go and had a great time.

Has Hanson moved to the UK or Europe? I am so disgusted with popular music today....foul language, horrible degrading lyrics, and songs exalting immoral behavior. It is easier to help monitor and choose their music while they are young. I knew Nyssa would listen to rock and roll so I introduced her to popular Christian music of various types. However, when they get to high school and college you lose that control over their listening tastes and now, Nyssa listens to some music I don't care for at all. So far, no really foul stuff so perhaps the early training did help... train up a child in the way they should go and they will return to that path.

I am curious to know how one travels for 32 hours in England... criss-crossing the country.
