Can't Get Enough...

Can you get any closer?
February 2007

I definitely have two history buffs on my hands so we really can't be living in a better place these days. I told you all that you may see a few more images from the British Museum and this was one of my favorites. I love to see the amazement and wonder in a child's eyes as they are soaking up something they find interesting.

It is the wonder that is seeping from this photo. Can you see Sam in the foreground....his nose pressed against the glass as he listens to the audio about this exhibit? He cannot be listening more intently, his hands at the ready to touch them...if only! These Scandanavian chess pieces are carved from walrus ivory (so NOT politically correct these days...but beautiful anyway). They were found in Scotland and date from the mid-12th century. Amazing.

After seeing this, Jack wants to take up chess.

Anna, just so touching. These moments will be so special to you later on as the children grow.

Museums are a favourite place of mine to visit as well and I can just see that your children are feeling just as I did.

I really like this photo today.

If I lived in London, I would NEVER have school at home - there are so many wonderful things to see and do! I admit it, I'm jealous Anna :)

It's cool how much they are interested in history..etc.

usually the only time you see someone that close to a glass case is if theres 31 flavors of ice cream on the other side :)

That is so cool how you made it look blurry. And you are right, he is concentrating SO hard. So cute.

How neat is it that something learned on one of your field trips is translating into a desire from your son to play chess? Ya gotta love that!

Again this is an awesome photo, so well seen and perfectly captured. This is a memory that will last a lifetime and more and also would be a wonderful stock photo shot. You definitely need to be making money from your photos.

Your children are fabulous subjects, you must be very proud of them.

Your children are adorable, and they are lucky enough to have a mother who captures some of their defining moments in their maturity!

Now I wish I had kids to show off to the world!

Ah, LOVE this photo!! I think I will handle my culture shock by spending my first month in all the museums ;)

Holy cow, I laughed out loud at your comment on the pug - and then proceeded to turn my computer upside down and laugh more... :)

Seriously, our list keeps growing - as it should! Hopefully it will get you (and the kids) "into the city" more, since I guess I'll be living more "central London" than you guys are...right?? But honestly, I'm so EXCITED and in great anticipation of actually and finally hanging out with you! I told some peeps at WHM that we've been blogging/commenting/emailing and they were excited for us to me :) haha I wonder if they know something we don't know.....

Anna, the reflections in the glass are priceless. I used to play chess, until I got good enough to beat the other player - then he wouldn't play with me anymore.

How gratifying to see their eagerness. That makes all the homeschooling worth the effort, doesn't it?
You have captured the wonder perfectly.

I like the softness of the focus and the colors - makes it seem more candid and intimate.

As for the PC crowd - when we got our 2 dogs, I called them "mutts" because thats what they are. I love mutts! While looking for some information on puppies on the web, I found out that the proper PC term is "hybrids", not "mutts". Imagine, protecting dogs from the humiliation of being referred to as "mutts"! Some people have too much time on their hands.

Wow! I can't imagine seeing something that old in person. What an experience that must have been for your boys.

Nice picture! Sounds like so many great places to visit there. :o)

And John's comment about mutts... I'd have never thought to call them hybrids. They aren't flowers, sheesh!

This picture reinforces the magic of learning and potential better than any story anyone could ever write.

You have a way of capturing not just great images, but great stories. This is so rich for so many reasons.

I only look at candy that way, Anna. Obviously your kids are more interested in education than I was.
