Crimson and Sunshine

Light in the Underground
February 2007

After a half term break here from homeschooling, we had planned a trip to the Science Museum for the day and also went to an IMAX show. It was alot of fun for all of us. As we went from the South Kensington tube station we walked a long underground tunnel that had exits for all the museums that are in this area. The V&A Museum, the Natural History Museum and some others are here. We were running frantically because we were meeting our HomeEd group there and I had gone the wrong way on the train...YIKES. Luckily, Sadie was paying attention and said something or we would have been late. As we were making our way in the tunnel walkway, there were rays of light pouring in from above at different points. I didn't have time to look then but on our way home I had a feeling I might have my pic of the day for you. I was right.

I took this on our way home. When I finally looked up I saw where the light was coming from, I was pleasantly surprised. Some of my favorite colors are shades of reds...so to see this deep crimson iron with the sunshine coming through was quite appealing to me. What made someone think to color something that no one would probably give a second glance too? How many people actually look up to see where this light is coming from in the midst of their busy lives?

I love the thought process to take something mundane and ordinary and give it a splash of color to make it interesting. I also noticed how many people stopped and looked up because they saw me taking this picture...maybe they appreciate it like I do....or maybe they think I am crazy. Let's not go down that road.

Kudos to whoever works for the London Transport that came up with this idea.

Another great spot... You are so right - I bet most people who go through here haven't noticed this.

Now I would have loved to get a picture of you looking up to take the picture and with all the other pedestrians looking up as well..... I think two people need to go on these photo tours together, to capture all the angles.... I am available.

IMAX movies are a ton of fun.

It doesn't really matter what the movie is about, as long is it has alot of scenery shots and slow motion....everything looks so cool on the huge screen!

anna....so neat that you DO notice these things. because, like you said, most people are in such a hurry that they don't. good lesson there. so have you hooked up with the wrecking crew since they have been back?

So you all know, I am available to take photo tours! I would love to have a partner in crime! Hehehe.

shades of red.....me too.

This has an "era" feeling to it too. It also reminds me of an arena or of a hockey net design.....

Great eye Anna........ :)

I love all the angles and patterns in this picture. The rust red really sets it off. I sure enjoy your blog.

Great shots lately, Anna!
I love the one of the kids with their faces against the glass. The statues are great, too.
I'm going to link your blog from mine, if that's okay?
Keep up the good work!
Joel

You got the "check out the whack-job photographer" look. Be proud. People who photograph everyday stuff never get that look. Only those of us who point our cameras where cameras have seldom/never been pointed before get that look.

Nice image.

Thanks for your latest comment, I knew you would relate to my commentary, being a fellow Believer ;)

...yeah, I've gotten looked at while photographing before too. I had a similar "making people look up" moment as well.

When I have a camera in my pocket, I seem to see things differently... and I suspect you do too. Lovely photo.

I love your picture! It is so neat to find something like this.

People always get interested when you are taking pictures. I think they love to see what you are seeing in something and try to figure it out.

Beautiful photo, as usual. And here's a funny thought. Some disgruntled worker hanging up there painting red and muttering to himself,
"stupid idea, who's going to see this, can't believe they got me doing this, first week on the job and why red, makes the sub look no better than she should be"
He didn't realize how much joy he'd be giving to you and all your faithful blog readers. =)

Hi Anna,

Thanks for stopping by my photo blog (and my main blog as well). It's nice to know that the great personal risk I assume in getting these shots has not been in vain! LOL

I've been busy writing... midterms, freelance news and other stuff, I haven't had time to blog as much as i would like.

I really like this shot. Of course you know I'm partial to geometric structures - and the colors here add an alluring element. A very nice shot indeed,

Mike

Anna,

Living on a big city, I sometimes find things like that, small details that somebody took the time to think about and make our lives less gray. Too bad most people don't look up, or to the sides...
Great blog! Love your engineers' Lego project, too!
