Full of Charm

A cold delivery
February 2007

Well, I decided that I shouldn't go very long without sharing this photograph. After my post from the 4th called "From Lines to Curves", I felt this was a much needed follow up. Please scroll down and see it if you haven't checked it out. All the elements I wanted are present and accounted for...a wire basket, full milk bottle, full juice bottle, and a porch...OK, you can't see the porch but trust me...it's there.

I took this today on a "field trip" around the neighborhood. I was so glad to see these sitting out where we decided to take our walk. It was like they were just waiting for me to stroll by with my camera. Home delivery never looked so good...and quaint!

My work here is done for now...

A great picture of a scene sadly once more common than nowadays. I miss home delivery of things like bread.

"From Lines To Curves" is an excellent image.

We had milk delivered like this when I was a kid. I haven't see a scene like this in 40 years or more.

Thanks Mike...John, I am glad that I could bring back a memory or two for you.

The last time I had milk delivery, you were a little girl! Back then, I got 4 gallons a week, but they were not in quaint glass bottles and wire caddies - they were in ugly plastic jugs.

only seeing an x for the picture...i'll have to come back.

okay...now i see it...so neat that they still deliver it like that.

Cool image.

There's a guy in my old church back up north, who always reminded me of a 50's Milk Man. He just had that look that you might see in an old sitcom from that era.

Now all we need are a pic of some juice glasses and a bowl of cornflakes!

This picture brings back memories to me too. As a kid we had the milkman, breadman and a produce truck make the rounds of our neighborhood. I hadn't thought of that in a long time.
Great picture of the bottles.

This is wonderful. I had no idea this was still done anywhere. It doesn't bring back memories because its something we never had in the small community I grew up in, but I love the idea! Plus its a great shot.

That image brings back memories of my youth. I can remember grocery shopping trips with my mother. I also remember never having to buy milk - it was always delivered in those glass bottles. It would be waiting at the front door as if the milk man magically knew when we needed more.

Peninsula Creamery - I can still see their logo!

Thanks, Anna.

Beautiful! I get home delivery of fresh raw goat's milk part of the year but the rest of the year I'm stuff with store-bought milk. ;)

From lines to curves was a very interesting picture... I love your photos!

Thanks for bringing back some fun memories. I believe during that time gas was about .25 a gallon! Love you, Mom

Periodically, in my neighborhood, I see a milk delivery truck. Your photo tempts me to call them and check out their prices! Love the romance of those times.

Anna I came across your blog and love your pictures.

I lived in southeast London, Eltham, for two years so know what you mean about the different doors, you could probably get a coffee table book together with shots of them because they are all so unique. I wanted to do that with the pubs but never got to look into it.

I also remember when the milk was delivered by the milkman, we left the coupons on the doorstep with the empty bottles and he took them and replaced every day.

Love your pictures.

My husband and I have been meaning to go to Big Cedar Lodge, but we haven't made it yet!

We still have a dairy that delivers here but since the weather is usually warmer, each house has an insulated box on the front porch... and you can't see the bottles. This is lovely.
