The Second Round

Cozy Lights...
February 2007

Before I do my post for today I want to thank you all for your encouraging words to me. It means a lot that each of you take the time to visit here daily. It brings me joy to know that you like what you see! Tonight is going to be short because I am a bit tired.

This evening we made a visit to the local pub....again. My husband has a friend in from the States and he took us there for a night out. This is one of the things that everyone wants to experience when they visit...a traditional British pub. The Castle to me, embodies the idea of a pub. The dark walls, the fireplaces, the old wood tables and chairs, and the dim lights. Very, very cozy.

I snapped this as we were waiting for our food. I like these lights on the wall there. If you notice that the tops of the shades are very dark because of the constant use over time. I just liked the way these fixtures looked and the light coming from them was very warm. As I write I am getting more tired just looking at it...

Night.

Who doesn't love a good 'British Establishment'? part of the british experience is to visit and drink in at least one, or two, or in my case it would be a dozen!! Hehe. I love this photo - it brings a great warmth the way you have shot it. Charming in fact.

i like the softness of the light.

great shot anna :)

I think I'm going to just be staying at home for spring break. Everyone's coming back from school, so it'll be a little family reunion.

Cool. So you do carry a camera everywhere you go? I need to start doing that!

I hope to experience an English pub before I die and I also need to get into the habit of carrying my camera everywhere!

I like the "tilt." Nice shot and I hope you rest well.

By the way, the seminar I went to was good. There was a part on pricing your services as a photographer that was particularly enlightening.

I love traditional pubs - when I moved to the UK from Canada, I couldn't wait to visit my first one (needless to say, it was NOT my last!).

Sorry I've been a bit scarce of late - work's been a bit hectic. Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving your comments :)

Hi Anna...

My husband and I never went to pubs here in Canada but on all of our visits to the UK on our hiking trips, we so loved pub lunches and meals. I even played the piano all evening up in the Tan Hill Pub on the Penine Way once while everyone was calling out their favourites--everything from "It's a long way to Tipperary" to "Amazing Grace" and what a wonderful time we had.

Night night my friend and happy Sunday!

No, Anna, thank YOU for your encouraging words and visiting my blog.

I am always very excited to hear from you and your honest and insightful ideas. It really means a lot to me that someone that is older than me can respect my hobby without taking age into account.

You make me feel important.

On your next pub visit, how about a photo of a typical pub meal? I thought a pub was just a bar, but it sounds more like a restaurant.

I hope you got a good night's sleep. Nice shot, warm and has a great atmosphere.

I have to say that I am not a smoker and that was the only thing I hated about the pubs, you couldn't breath in them LOL. I dont know if that has changed but a lot of them sure needed a good ventilation system. Pub meals were also great fun, still remember that smell.

Hope you are having a good Sunday.

Hmmmm another visit to the pub...

Wonderful tones. I don't like tilted images too much but this works really well.

You certainly have a great eye for pictures.

The fleur-de-lys in the middle reminds me of home: I grew up in the province of Quebec, whose official flower is the fleur-de-lys.

I so very much appreciate your photographic philosophy, Anna, because it is so similar to mine: Don't wait for a unique time to take pictures. Instead, shoot in the fleeting moments in between doing all the other things in life. Shoot the everyday, but find your own unique way of looking at it. Take the camera everywhere and see what develops.

I get it. I get your work. I'm so glad we crossed blog/shutter paths.

You are right Anna...very cozy and comforting. I wish I could enjoy a meal and a pint with you and your husband just once. I know it would be a wonderful evening.
