Fresh Popcorn

Salty and Hot
May 2007

My iTunes: Send Me An Angel by Scorpions

I think I am liking this extended stay houseguest idea! Tonight, Jackie made some fresh popped popcorn from the stove for all of us. What a treat! I haven't had this in such a long time. We are just settling into the couch now to start Season 2 of 24. It is amazing. I am so excited!

One of my earliest childhood memories is of when as a family we went to see Star Wars (yes, the first one...yes, in the theater) in 1977. I was 5. YIKES, I am totally dating myself. :) Before going to the movie, my mom would spend an hour making fresh popcorn and putting it in big brown grocery bags to take with us. Something tells me you can't do that anymore....actually, I am not sure we could do it then, but we did! :) What a memory. Thanks Mom for that so long ago...and thanks Jackie for tonight.

YUM.

~sidenote...what is it with me and the food shots lately?

Yummy! Wish I had some of that popcorn right now. Perhaps you are taking more food shots because you are eating healthier? Okay, maybe not? Enjoy 24! Hope we can catch up soon!

I eat a small bag of popcorn every night, Anna. It's good fiber and sooooo good! I remember seeing the first Star Wars (I wasn't five.....LOL).

I don't think I've been here before on your site. Nice photos. That popcorn photo is excellent.

Anna, Just wanted to reply to your post. I don't sell C-Memories but I do love their albums. I love to scrapbook. It's relaxing but I guess scrapbooking comes into play with taking photos. Barb

I turned 15 in 1977. Ouch! I worked at the movie theater when "The Empire Strikes Back" was released. There were lines around the block!

Good looking popcorn.

The power of suggestion! Now I'm craving popcorn.

BTW, even though I grew up on Jiffy Pop (anyone old enough to remember that?), I think microwave popcorn has to be one of the greatest inventions of the modern era. One of my daughters once asked me how we made popcorn before microwave ovens were invented.

Movie popcorn is the best! Almost as good as a hot dog at a ballgame.

I'm not telling you how old I was when Star Wars was released....but I'll give you a hint. My first movie was Mary Poppins. I was 4 years old, the same age as "Michael Banks."

cheers.

Anna you're KILLING me with the popcorn pic. I have loved popcorn since I was a little kid. I am not as obsesive about it as I once was but still realy enjoy it.

You know, it occurs to me that I miss the way we used to pop it and then pour melted butter (actually margarin I guess) over it. Now it comes in the microwave bag pre-buttered and salted. Somehow it just isn't as good as it used to be! Especially when Mom made it just for me!

Oh, to answer the question you asked on my blog I haven't really been anywhere in particular. Weekends are busier now that the weather is nice, but I don't have a legitimate excuse for my long absence from posting. I need to get off my backside and start posting!

I love taking photos of food! SOmething about taking an image of something people never used to take photos of I guess. And I too remember going to see Star Wars, dressed in my pjs with my sister and sitting in the back of the car with my folk in the front.

I LOVE home made popcorn. I'm the only one in my family that prefers it to microwave popcorn. But my Dad popped it a lot when I was a kid and the taste of home made vs microwave has nostalgia salt sprinkled on it. Good times!

Just have to say that I went and popped some corn in the microwave after reading this.
Didn't stop it in time and some of it burned. phew. Not so good and now the house smells. I didn't satisfy that craving anyway. Guess I will have to try it again later.

I can't comment on all so 1) I love love love popcorn 2) those cakes look AMAZING.

Geraldo said...

Well, I'm not going to say how old I was when I saw Star Wars, or what was the first movie I saw (all I can say is that it was NOT a silent movie)... :-)
For the price we pay for popcorn at movie theaters today, don't you think they should give free tickets with it?

Popcorn like that takes me back. My dad didn't pop it on the stove, but in an electric popcorn popper. No, not the air poppers. Those were terrible.

You didn't date yourself too bad about Star Wars. I was six when it came out, and our whole family went to see it.

Chad Oneil Myers said...

Yeah, you wouldn't even be able to "sneak" those in today.

I don't like popcorn but I just love, love, love 24. That Jack is amazing! LOL Have a great time with the ensuing 4 seasons of 24, Anna.
