A Good Ol' London BBQ

My iTunes: Traveling Soldier by Dixie Chicks

WOW....what a day! My legs are killing me from the miles we walked all around the city on this whirlwind tour we are attempting. I have lots of shots to share that I am pretty excited about but I am starting with what we did last tonight.

You can tell by song up top that I am in a country mood tonight...there is an explaination below...

Two words that do NOT go together in my world are BBQ and London....at least not until recently. Born and raised in the Southern US, I take my barbeque very serious! My husband and I found this restaurant in the Soho area of London called Bodean's...it boasts "authentic American-style" BBQ...from ribs to pulled pork (and don't forget the 5 Coors Lights in a bucket for 10 pounds). Although I couldn't wait to try the food, I have to say I was skeptical on our first visit. To my surprise, I was completely blown away at how great the food tasted. Their menu included beans, sweet cornbread, and homemade coleslaw. The only essential item missing on the menu was real sweet tea. I think I can let that slide...for now anyway. :)

I snapped these photos while we were there tonight. Peg and Keitt (John's sister and brother-in-law) took us there and it was such a treat for us! Thanks guys! This post is my official recommendation for anyone who lives in or near London....or anyone planning a visit. You will not be disappointed if you make time to come here for lunch or dinner!

Tomorrow we are back to the city again! BTW, I had to let a friend borrow my computer so I won't be visting all my favorite blogs until Friday night probably (I am already having withdraw)...my better half has offered to let me post off of his laptop for a couple of days so I can keep up.. :)

Welcome to Bodean's

Even the name sounds country.

We found a great place in Jomtien, Thailand, called Bob's BBQ. It is so nice to find a place like that over here! Bob is from Houston, and know's how to do things right.

Here's to good BBQ (minus the sweet tea...I like mine straight up!)

Blessings, and enjoy your family while they are there.

What a find for you guys. Sadly they serve no sweet tea. Even worse if they don't serve the ultimate BBQ joint dessert, Banana Pudding. Maybe NC has again spoiled us.

Hey Keitt and Peggy, enjoy your visit!

Was the place popular with the Londoners or was it just a bunch of homesick Americans?

And I just can't say I'd be too broken up about the lack of sweet tea. I mean...for your sake, I wish they'd had it...but sugar in tea is just wrong.

Also, I liked the way you framed the sign pictures. It makes what could have been a pretty straight forward snapshot much more inteesting.

Hi Anna

Thanks for all your visits to my blog. Glad things are good there despite the crazy weather.

I have read back over your recent posts which I have missed, as usual great shots with your own stamp on them.

To add to the list of words
english vs american

boot - trunk
bonnet - hood
butt - fanny (that is my best because I was horrified when I got to the USA and they called those little bags fanny packs because we have a whole other concept of what that word means LOL
petrol - gas (as far as I am concerned gas is an invisible vapor!!!)
roundabouts - traffic circles
robots - traffic lights

I will think of some more and post them LOL.

Have a great Friday and weekend.
((((Hugs)))

You know if they don't have sweet tea - or the curl-your-tongue sweetness of Bill's in Richmond Limeade - I couldn't go there.....LOL

Well, maybe I could.....

Real BBQ in London? Amazing. No sweet tea? That's OK - you can't hardly find it in New Orleans' restaurants either. You have to go to more rural areas to find people who know how to make tea. This blog is a real education for me!

Coming from the BBQ capital of NC, I have to ask - was it Western style or Eastern style? : > Don't know how to eat barbeque without that sweet tea. I have a wicked sweet tea addiction. Glad you could find some down home cookin' in old London town.
Take care!

BBQ in London. Whoo-hoo! No more Shepherd's Pie for me. Gotta have my sweet tea, too, but I supposed if they have stuff there what I can sweeten'er up with, I'll be alright.

If I ever get to go there.

Ahhhh yes.....Bar-B-Q! We down here in Alabama have the stuff on every corner. And there ain't a bad one in the bunch!

Great pics. Sounds like you're having a blast to me!

Wow -- that really sounds good... I'm normally supposed to be a vegetarian, but occasionally and hopefully just briefly I "fall off the wagon" and love to dig into that delicious bbq stuff...
And yeah, going all the way to England to get it makes perfect sense... I bet they do it up "properly"...
