Ruby Petals

Stalks of Ginger
March 2008

My iTunes: Somebody's Baby (Acoustic) by Jackson Browne
This album just came out a few days ago and is so good. It is all of hos best songs to his acoustic guitar and piano. Check it out!

John and I were treated to a dinner out the other night at one of my favorite restaurants. We went to Houstons. It was amazing! They have the most delicious barbecue ribs I have ever eaten. I got several shots that night which I will be sharing but this one caught my eye as soon as I walked in the door. Off to the corner and across the room was a vase stuffed with stalks of ginger. I can honestly say I have never seen these before and couldn't take my eyes off of them. As soon as I could, I went over to the check them out. They look so rigid but they are very soft to the touch and the color is absolutely stunning and vibrant. I almost thought they were fake but they weren't. I think I managed to capture them nicely in this shot. I am sure I have a new favorite flower now.

Hope you all have had a nice start to your week!

Do you carry a mongo camera or a point and shoot? I carry a little camera in my purse....but I often leave the "big" camera in the car!

I dont go anywhere without my D200, a couple batteries and a couple of lenses! ;) You just never know what you are going to want to capture!

Gee, that's funny. I watched years of "Gilligan's Island," and Ginger never looked quite like that.

Cool pic, and like you, I find that a lot of times it's a matter of whether or not you have the right tools for the job. The eye still has to be there, but it does no good if the camera is back home in the closet.

I completely agree Mark! Great point!

I was fortunate enough to see ginger growing in Barbados and Hawaii. It comes in a bubble-gum pink, too. I use it a lot.

(Guess who's here painting my kitchen? YAY!!)

Nice shot. I have the Jackson Browne, but haven't listened to it yet, but I loved Vol. 1.

Love the poetic curve of the Ginger. You captured the bold color and simplicity so well and yes, Hustons is fabulous...

Really so beautiful!! Isn't it great to have your camera when you see something you want to shoot? I once hopped out of my car and spent almost an hour photographing oranges in a orchard on the side of the road.
