A Trip to The Varsity

#1 with Slaw & Rings
March 2008

My iTunes: I Don't Want To Be (acoustic) by Gavin DeGraw

We had a fun day today. I went into the city with my better half and then we caught lunch together on the way back home at The Varsity. An Atlanta landmark since 1928, it's a must whenever you come through town. When they ask their famous "What'll ya have?" make sure you order the chili cheese slaw dogs and an Varsity Orange drink...the rings aren't so bad either. The other name I like to call this meal? A heart attack on a plate! Is that bad advertising? Either way...it's yummy! I snapped these while we were there today.

It was fun and I had been telling my dad I would post some pics from there. This is my way of enticing my mom and dad to come for a visit! Is it working?

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE WONDERING...

We are fine here in Atlanta. We had very harsh weather tonight. I think it was officially called a tornado about five minutes ago. Lots of damage downtown where the SEC tournament is happening. You can see pictures here of the damage.

Thanks for letting us know you are all okay. Heard about the tornado! In all my trips to Atlanta, I've never been to The Varsity. Looks yummy! Timothy

I've heard good things about the Varsity, and I've driven past on my way through, but have never been. Heart attack on a plate? Perhaps it's a GOOD thing that we didn't stop!

That top pic is great. Makes me want to eat.

Also, the moment I saw the picture, I wanted to type the comment "heart attack on a plate," but then you beat me to it!

I discovered I liked onion rings about three or four years ago, which is probably about the time I should have started cutting out bad foods, not adding new ones.

Now I have a mission for if I'm ever in Atlanta. That stuff looks tasty!

Hope the weather eased up for ya'all. I just heard from a friend in NC and they are hunkering down. They just heard an alert about an approaching tornado.

Hot dogs with slaw ON the hot dog was unheard of to me until I moved to NC. Now I love them that way!

Oh those onion rings and hotdogs look GOOD. Fast food in the US is a ton better than the UK; if I lived there I'd be twice the size i am now!!

I was going to stop commenting, but daggum it, THE VARSITY??? I can't stop now! lol

I'm from Athens, GA and grew up on greasy rings. Your first shot is killin' me (I wanna go to the V now!). I lived in Atlanta for about 1 1/2 years before I got married...and we usually stop in for a bite when driving through.

It's an institution, yes?
