I Can't Resist.

Signage
June 2008

My iTunes: Madness by Alanis Morrisette
(I am listening to this A LOT! Great stuff!)

Ok, this shot isn't about composition, lighting or depth of field. This is basically a window into my relationship with my mom. We always joke with my mom about how she says things and then adds "just kidding" on the end. It is kind of scary because we all know that she normally means whatever comes before the "just kidding"...I (and maybe a few others linked to me by DNA) think she only adds that so our feelings don't get hurt. It really is funny. Actually it happened today when we talked on the phone!

Anyhow, on out first day in Durango we passed by this sign and while we were there we passed it about another 100 times. Every single time I saw it, I thought of my mom and how much I miss her since she lives far from me. I sure wish she would visit...hint, hint. ;) I just had to take this. And I love the colors. I love the hotel signs from the West. I got a couple more I will share later on next week.

Have a great weekend coming up everyone!

That's an awesome sign! I probably would have caused a major fender-bender if I saw that while driving because I would have slammed on the brakes looking at it, cracking up!

Great sign and nice mother story. Was trying to think of a clever line I could use and then say "just kidding," but alas, my imagination has failed me.

What a fun light-hearted design. I hope your Mom takes your hint. ;P

So this goes to show that the best photos have little to do with the technical stuff. The best photos touch us in some way, as this does for you. Yet as we look at it, it has Anna written all over it: the tilted angle (there's probably some technical name for that), the "looking up" theme, and the use of red, yellow, green and blue. So it is indeed, a great shot. And some pretty nice writing to accompany it. :)

haha This is great! My friends and I are all too familiar with tacking on that phrase at the end of certain statements (just kidding)! :)

I hope your mom reads your blog!

Nowadays signs just don't have the character they used to. This one is great in all its gaudy glory!

Great sign. It's funny you used the word "signage." When I worked for a real estate firm years ago, I heard them use the word and thought they were joking around with the word "sign." Nope. Real word.

I like this pic on more than one level. It speaks from an older time, yet in a voice more modern.

Lovely sentiment Anna - I see Mom approved.
Robert made a lot of good points - it is all Anna!

Great humor and attention getting sign.
How nice to be reminded of your Mom at least 100 times on your trip.
Its hard to have family far away. That's one of the reasons we moved 1 year ago this weekend.

The sign is hilarious, and it's always interesting what strange little things remind us of our family.

It's the humor, and it's cool ;)

Hey Anna,

As always, very cool shots lately. I'll get involved in one of your "projects" sooner or later, keep asking me!
Have a great weekend.

My sister and I used to overuse "just kidding" so my mom started to say "a kid is a baby goat." Thus began our longstanding tradition of saying, "Just goating."

Guess I should drive down and see the sign sometime - it's a good one!
