Window Through Time

"Looking Through"
June 2008

My iTunes: Underneath by Alanis Morissette

This shot above would've been perfect for Mark's Project Look Through...except that I am a month and a half late!

Anyhow, I shot this on our trip Mesa Verde, Colorado. It really is an amazing place where you can walk around the ancient cliff dwellings made by the Puebloan people. The structures are dated back to 600 A.D. I got several great shots but this one stood out to me. All of you know I prefer close ups for detail but I had to get one farther back and that image is below.

The kids are much better and fever free after resting for the day, so we will resume our adventuring tomorrow!

I love these shots. The first one fits your post title perfectly, and the next almost looks like a miniature movie set. Missing the cliff-dwellers' ruins had to be the only disappointing thing about our New Mexico trip last summer.

You guys got to see so much on your trip. The kids are old enough that they always will remember it, and not just because they got sick at the end.

I think I've sent you this link before, but here it is in case I haven't:

Flip4Mac - a program that allows you to play Windows Media files right from your Quicktime player on your Mac. I mean, in case anybody ever put out there a Windows Media video you want to watch -- whoever that might be.

Love the pitch-black window in the white wall. Very austere.

Mesa Verde is such a fascinating place! I think our kids were about 7, 9, and 11 when we took them there. The thought of raising a family in a cliff dwelling boggles my mind.

I'm so glad your kids are feeling better!

To stand where the ancients lived ... it changes your perspective about "self" doesn't it?

At school in Humanities class I taught our fourth grade students about the Pueblos and their way of life - these would have been wonderful visual aids!
Thanks for a virtual vacation!

Glad the kids are better - I bet they are too.

As always (well, almost always -- just kidding!) As always, great shots. I would love to see that area someday. Glad the kids are feeling better!

Oh, wow. Like you, I am a fan of the close-up shots, but the one from farther away is impressive!

Could you hear the laughter, smell the smoke and hear the whispers?

A wonderful photograph for Friday. Have a nice weekend.

As much as I want to see in, I love that I can't see in the window. And then I'm glad you pulled back for the second image. It adds to the viewing experience. The next natural thing is to want to see inside. Combined, the images leave me with a sense of anticipation. But not so much that I can't appreciate these. I'm rambling so I'll bow out and tell you, nice job. :)

That is very cool. It's amazing what they were able to do!

I love the second shot!! I remember learning about the Pueblo indians when I was younger. I'd love to see that sometime... then again is there ever a time when I don't want to travel and see something new?
