What I'm Listening To: Penny & Me (acoustic version) by Hanson

If you get a chance, check out this video on iTunes along with the free podcast episodes of the making of their documentary film "Strong Enough To Break". There is a lot of good buzz about it already. It tells the story of these three very talented musicians (and brothers) on a journey making a new album on their own indie record label after years of trouble with the corporate music industry and artistic interference for the almighty dollar. They have sold 15 million records worldwide and their anticipated new album "The Walk" is coming May 22. Click below to check them out.

OK, OK, I'm done...here is my post for the day....

This is one of those times that I am so thankful to see while I am homeschooling. My son Jack takes his sketchpad everywhere he goes and as soon as we get to where we are going (in this case Buckingham Palace), he plops down and starts sketching. It is wonderful. This is what you don't get sitting in a desk in school for six hours. Somedays I need to remind myself of this. I love that I am able to let him delve into the things that he loves...particularly art. This is a subject that his previous school did nothing with and when you have a visual child (who is much like his mother that way) they can get left on the sideline or even worse...BORED.

I snapped this from quite a distance with one of my other lenses and he had no clue I was taking it. This is one of those images I will treasure away in my heart as something quite special to me.

Would you all be interested to see Jacks sketch that day along with the subject of his attention...if so please click below to see the boys' blog page.

That is fantastic that your son enjoys sketching. An artist in the making maybe? And you are very lucky to live in a lovely history filled city with loads of beautiful art work. Terrific. I'll pop over and have a look at his sketches now...

This picture has so much heart and compassion that I don't even know where to start.

All I can say is that you can tell this picture was taken through a mother's eye.

Thanks for everything Anna, your kind words have been helping me lately more than I think you realize.

Anna, Jack is very good! But I have to ask what happened to his hair??? Seems both he and I got scalped recently!

I couldn't see it until I "embiggened" it (word coining credit goes to the one and only Carmi!), but the intensity in his eyes is absolutely mesmerizing. I can just see the wheels turning... the sheer concentration is inspirational. So much and but a child...

    PS:

I want to thank you for your daily pilgrimages to my photo blog. It doesn't get a lot of traffic, but input from one whose talent I greatly respect is enough to keep me trudging along.

    Thank you.

The intensity of his concentration is what striked my first, it makes the photo extremely powerful. What a wonderful photo to have of your child!
    Loved his sketch too.

Great portrait shot. You have certainly captured his intensity and concentration. He obviously has picked up some artistic ability from someone! (I wonder who) Great drawing! Thanks for sharing.

Anna, thanks for the reminder about Jennifer Garner's kid being Christened at my old church. I added an edit to the post.

How wonderful that you are affording your son the opportunity to be creative. It's sad, indeed, that the school setting is not always the best for our children. I taught for many years and know that to be so.

His drawing is wonderful, as is your photo of him. Oh, and I see that he's left-handed. We lefties are all geniuses, you know.

My former pastor is left-handed. I gave him a little sign that said, "Everyone is born right-handed. Only the gifted change."

Oh,I see he is a lefty. So am I. Left handed people are the only ones in their "right mind", you know. Perhaps he will be an artist some day. Went to see those Legos... that is something else... the Presidents at their Mt. Rushmore look a little wide eyed and frightened.....(chuckle)

I can see you're an inspired mum.
