Facing Giants...

I would appreciate your thoughts and prayers today. I am having my first "event" where I am being paid to photograph. I was asked to do this through word of mouth among friends...pretty cool! It is a 60th wedding anniversary and I will be doing family portraits and some candids. I'm excited and very nervous all at the same time! I will let you know how it goes...

Feeling small?

What I'm Listening To: All We Ever Needed by Rush of Fools

First...a neat story.

As I was getting ready to publish this tonight, I was very excited to get contacted by the father of a member of a new Christian band RUSH OF FOOLS. I had written that I was listening to their new song "Undo" last night on my No.9 post. Today he google searched the band name and found my blog and really likes it. How cool is that?!?! Check them out on iTunes of you get a chance or their MYSPACE page. Their new album comes out worldwide this May. I love BlogLand! :)

I love seeing other photoblogs. I could spend hours looking through them. Carmi Levy, on his blog yesterday, shot an image of a column along with some insightful words. As soon as I saw his picture, it got me thinking. I have been hoping to post at some point the picture above. I figured now would be a good time to coincide with his post. I captured this at the British Museum. I know, I know...again with the lines, but I like it. It was timely that I could share this image after my day...

It was a strange one for me today.

Have you ever felt like David as he faced Goliath? Big obstacles, apparently little hope? Some of my days here, but certainly not all, can be this way. The adjustment pains that come along with being in a different culture, away from all that is familiar, can be very disheartening. I find myself wondering where God is going to settle me in all of it and desperately trying to rest in His sovereignty and goodness. Somedays I feel quite small in the grand scheme of life and all that comes with it. Today I felt these feelings. How do days like this sneak up on me?

I am so grateful I have Him to run to in these times and I am thankful for my friends who point me to him without fail. For now, those giants don't seem so threatening anymore and the hope I was searching for...has been here all along in my Savior.

Wow, Anna. What a post both in picture and in words. You express yourself so well. Thanks for being real. It is remarkable and refreshing and leaves me full of hope. Is it too late to call?
might be. jenn

I love how similar this photo is to Carmi's and yet you are so far apart. Just lets me know that architecture is all related in many fundamentals. Columns say strength, steadfastness. Lovely picture today.

I checked that site for the singing group and they are to be in Williamsburg next week... I thought perhaps it included a boy Nyssa grew up with but he isn't in this group...

I agree with Jenn that the picture and your thoughts were beautiful. I like the lines on the column but also the decorative overhang at the top. Very nice. Love, Mom

This makes me wonder where else our creative paths will coincide. Totally cool!

Shoot as many photos of lines as you wish. I'll do the same.

I understand that completely. I often find myself just crumpling inside because of things that, I'm sure, I quite insignificant to other people. God raises me back up every time, but it's hard to remember in the "little" moments.

Hi Anna

I am sorry I have missed the last few posts. The portaits of your son with the new Speedlite are gorgeous, unusual and refreshing.

I love the doorway No. 9, the way the tree branches slightly obscure it from view, very nice. The B&W works well here too.

The column is great, same feeling that I had when Carmi posted his, I have a view of you laying on the pavement to take this shot, although I am sure you didnt LOL, it is just the vision that comes to mind. Definitely makes you feel small when you look at it.

Thanks for your visits and comments and hope you are coping okay. I know the feeling of being separated from your roots and what is familiar to you. The culture shock is not pleasant. I have done it three times in my life. But it does get better. You have your wonderful family and that is all that counts at the end of the day.

"talk" soon

Lori

Very interesting picture today Anna. I particularly like the strength and stability the entire structure reflects with its bold color and design. This is probably one of my favorites along with Parade of Stone and Iron, for the same reasons.

Your photo really shows the beauty of an everyday object. Well done!

I have to say that I have been feeling a bit like you lately. I miss my hometown and I only live an hour and a half away by car! You are so brave to live so far away! I am also wondering what God has planned for me and how I fit in.
Thanks for the link to the band RUSH OF FOOLS. Their music is great and I plan to check out there website again!

and i can see how wonderful a mom you are.....i can tell just by reading sadie's blog- what an incredible young lady she is! so i will pray for continued strength and encouragement for you.....

Anna, I did see your reply on your No. 9 post. I also read your "Facing Giants" post and wanted to thank you for your comments about Rush of Fools and for putting their MYSPACE link. You are truly helping their quest of spreading God's word worldwide. I plan on telling my Church friends about Anna's Photo of the Date site so they can can follow your daily articles and see you many pictures. Hope you have a blessed day.

Thanks to you all for your comments. It has been very encouraging for me. I am amazed at how the Lord is providing for me everytime I turn around through many of the words you have taken the time to write to me...

My night went well tonight. I am looking forward to doing it all again at some point if I have another chance.

Thanks again for the prayers!
