What I'm Listening To: Peace of Mind by Boston

Real quick I wanted to say how sorry I was to hear that the lead singer of Boston, Brad Delp, passed away Friday at the young age of 55 of natural causes. Their self titled album from 1976 remains the number one selling debut album in US history. That says alot with the music industry being what it is today. On their band website yesterday, it said only one sentence...'We lost the nicest man in rock and roll today'. A simple yet heartfelt sentiment. For any of you who are doing the math, I was 4 when this song was released. My older brother and sister used to play this music and I will always love it.

Now for my post...

What a difference a day makes. I snapped the image above last night at dusk. As you can imagine, I was staring. It was beautiful to see these pinks and violets on the horizon. Just breathtaking. As I was posting this tonight, I glanced out the window and my view was just as spectacular. So I took another shot and that second image is below. The blues are so vibrant and there was no trace of pink like the night before. I am mesmerized by the varying hues just 24 hours apart from eachother.

I'm off to start planning my homeschooling week. Have a good week yourself!

They are both beautiful! If I didn't know better, I'd think they were watercolors.

Nice pictures, I love the names for things they have in England.

Beautiful sunset. Sunsets are always so impressive to me. I have discovered that photo judges on the other hand really don't like them. So the moral of this sad tale is if you are entering a photo contest you may want to think twice before you enter a sunrise or sunset.

Gorgeous.

Amazing how God changes our view from day to day. Literally and figuratively.

Hope you and the family have a blessed week Anna.

Hmmm. It's funny, you know. I mean I am a journalist - I tend to stay pretty well hooked into the news. I usually know what's going on in the world - not just in government affairs, but in other areas as well. It seemed as though I couldn't escape the Anna Nicole spectacle - only to be followed by th latest adventures of Ms. Spears.

But I did not know of Brad Delp's passing until just moments ago - from your post. I can't even begin to explain what an integral part of my adolescence Boston represented. They exploded onto the music scene just as I was discovering album rock - and Boston was the best.

My first Boston album quickly became so worn out I had to buy another within a year. I saw Boston headline Bill Graham's Day on the Green at the Oakland Coliseum and other very large venues. I still listen to Boston on a regular basis. This is sad news indeed.

What I'm listening to: "Wasted Words" by The Allman Brothers Band. (Yeah, I'm that old.)

Both of these are lovely; I can't decide which one I like best. I think I'd mount them side by side in the same frame.

They sky has always mesmerized me. It is like nothing else on this earth and every aspect of it is beautiful.

Blue skies or rolling thunder clouds, it is always breathtaking!

Sunsets are all different, God never paints them the same way twice... all are originals! Isn't that fabulous!

kenju is right - they do have a lovely watercolur feel - very dreamy.

I too have taken many shots of trees of late - just can't find any words to dovetail with them yet...

beautiful shots (as usual)

Anna, your two photos are lovely today. I love sunsets and sunrises. I also posted one tonight taken on my way home from a little journey. It was glorious.

Nice comparison Anna. Hence my theory, shoot it when you see it because you will never see the same scene twice in the same place, it will always be different.

I have been looking back on the posts I have been missing so will comment on all here.

I love the pink flower and the way you have processed it makes it look dreamy and soft.

Your son defintely has an artistic eye, tell him that is a fabulous sketch!!! You definitely have a budding artist on your hands, teach him to use a camera too. Unfortunately artists battle to make a living however if he can shoot and paint/draw then he has a double chance to be famous and make money!!!!

I will be looking out for the number 40. It will be interesting if it adds to detracts from the picture to have it that way.

Have a great day and I hope you and you husband enjoyed the movie.

I was also sad about the passing of Brad Delp. Boston the album with the guitar on the cover was one of the first records I purchased as a 16 or 17 year old. I still have it somewhere in one of the storage facilities that I have my stuff in either London or South Africa :-(

It's amazing what a little bit of time will do to the same scene. Slight shifts in light can result in dramatically different tones - as you've so artfully illustrated here.

Quite coincidentally, I was out shooting in the dying twilight last evening. I had dropped the kids off at a program, and instead of driving home, I went to a nearby park - beside a sewage plant, of all things - and explored the orane contrails in the sky and the shiny aluminum network of pipes within the plant.

Then, when the sky had gone completely black, I turned my attention to long exposures of passing traffic.

I came home with some cool stuff. I thought you'd get a kick out of it.

That first Boston album was fantastic, and the second was okay but they became too derivative of their own sound, I think. I still love that first album though.

a lovely couple of pictures, beautiful colours. Mother Nature has a great sense of colour and tone, doesn't she?
