Weathering the Weather

What I'm Listening To: Like the Weather by 10,000 Maniacs

When will these cold days leave us? I am tired of living through them daily and definitely tired of writing about it!

OK...I am done venting. Sorry about that...

I am going to be thankful that even though the crisp, winter air is still hanging on (like a vengeance) that God is blessing us with beautiful days here and there, as if to give us a taste of what is around the corner! We have had some beautiful days here lately. I love the days when I open up my windows at home to get the breeze going through or when I'm driving and put the windows down to let the air in while listening to my favorite melodies. It is euphoric after a string of long winter days to have one or two nice ones.

I always find it interesting how the weather is so strongly connected with my emotions. Today I wondered if that fact might keep me from things. Doesn't God want me to savor the day I am in? Regardless if it's cold, hot, rainy, or snowy...shouldn't I be looking for something beautiful or finding joy in a moment? Like how a tree can look more far more interesting to me with no leaves...or my Sam, running in from playing outside, bundled up with his scarf, he greets me with a cold, red nose. These are the moments I am talking about.

I snapped these pics a few days apart. The top image is a cold, dreary day...the bare tree a reminder it's going to be awhile until I see some green. The bottom image was yesterday. Just looking at that window open, I can still feel the breeze hitting my face.

So while I wait (hopefully, patiently) for the onset the warmer seasons, I am going to keep looking for the blessings of today.

Yesterday

HI Anna.

Today in my neck of the woods, the sun came out and it felt a weeeeeee bit warmer, but not enough to allow for the unlayering of woolens....

Last night, a friend and I decided to cut a bunch of forsythia branches from her overgrown hedge to bring inside......hopefully the warmth of indoors will produce some yellow blooms. We went a little crazy with the hedge clippers, so now my house is filled with unsightly floral arrangements that right now only look like sticks in a vase.......

my fingers are crossed....it was a fun thing to do (in the dark!!) and it may just help me weather the weather!!

I LOVE the window shot.....and the reflections on it. Very pretty.

Anna, you know how I love the England clouds on those beautiful clear days and I think I see a reflection of some in your window! Your words today were beautiful and I know you'll find happiness in the dreary days as well and the sun shining days. Love, Mom

What a difference a few days or even a day can make. I love the moodiness of your top shot. And I can feel the warmth in the bottom shot. You have done a great job of capturing both.

Keep your spirits up, warmth and spring is just around the corner.

Your post and photos are so inspirational, Anna! As you already know, I have been feeling down because of the weather. Your post puts things into perspective for me once again!

Hi Anna... I love the last picture... and it made me think of this verse: "The light is pleasant, and it is good for the eyes to see the sun." Eccl 11:7

The open window photo is really nice. It's very simple, but it says "Spring!" to me.

Hey Anna!
I'm sorry I haven't been writing to you lately, I am preparing for a vacation to California, so I've been swamped with things to do.

I'm at school now so i can't see your pictures, but I will check them when I get home.

Once again, sorry for not commenting in so long!

I really like the top picture. These always make me think of the skeleton or the arterial system of the body.. I like to call them the "veins across the sky". Whereas, in the summer when the leaves hide the sun and the sky and the birds... now things are so clear... the cardinal sitting in the branches, the chickadee flitting to and fro, the suns rays streaming down. Yes, it would be nice to have it a little warmer but I miss winter when it goes. Of course where we are there isn't much to miss.. our grass is mostly green (actually mostly it is our weeds) all winter. But, tomorrow it will officially be SPRING!

Our weather has been on a yo-yo for months now. Today it is 70* and gorgeous, yesterday was cool, tomorrow will be cooler and then it is suppose to get warmer again. I suppose we can be satisfied knowing that warmer days are coming.

It's been very hot here, so I'm having the opposite problem. I wish it was cold!

I can't see your pictures for today for some reason, I'll have to come back a bit later.

Now that we're outside with the dog at least three times a day, we're much more in tune with the subtleties of the day's weather than we ever were before. If it's below freezing, then the mushy mud on the lawn will harden up and I won't have to clean Frasier's paws when we get in. It's such an influence.

I love the contrasting tone of these images. You capture atmosphere wonderfully in these stark, straightforward photos.
