Welcome to Venice! This city is such a gem! It is a place where cars have been replaced by boats, lunch lasts two hours and gelato is officially a food group all its own! If you frequent my blog, you all know I love to capture doorways. Well, forget doors here...windows are what caught my eye....each one as unique as the Venetian living behind it. Mike, I even found a front porch Venice style! I will be sharing that later. Come along for a glimpse of Venice through my lens and hopefully you can see how absolutely breathtaking it is around every turn, across every bridge and under each tunnel.
John and I were in a state of wonder as we explored all the nooks and crannies we could find. This trip was so unexpected and such a wonderful blessing for us. At times I found myself not believing where I was or what I was experiencing. There are so many treasures all over this city to absorb. We walked for days and days and when we weren't walking we were perched next to the water. Next to some of the bluest waters I have ever seen, John journaled nonstop and I lost myself in a crime novel set in Venice. I loved JUST sitting with him and enjoying eachothers company. Of course, every now and then I would look up from reading only to take a few hundred pictures! We even had time to squeeze in an afternoon nap here and there. I hope you enjoy as I sift and share.

For someone living three hours by car from Venice, it's a shame that I haven't been there in years, and actually never with a camera! This is such a wonderful city with such an incredible amount of tangible history, and you really feel the eastern connections that Venice had, as well as the heritage of Byzance. I 've just arrived back to Vienna from a short vacation, and tomorrow it's back to work. I envy you :)

How wonderful!! Venice is such a unique place.....nothing else like it in the whole wide world. This history, the culture and the deeply rooted traditions connected to the church......it is such a wonderful destination.

Hooray for Anna and John! That was the only major city in Italy we didn't see last year - so I would love to see ALL your photos. I really hope I get to see it in person before I die. You are lucky, and I am so glad you got to go there!
I have spent the last several days reading your blog and I must say that it is amazing. I am at a loss for words. The views through your lens, not to mention the words you write, are nothing less than astounding. You are truly an inspiration. I cannot wait to see more of your work and read more of your words.

Hooray! Great shots as I'm sure the other 1,597 are as well. It's hard to believe it was 12 years ago that I was there and for such a short time. Your pictures will show me so much of what I wish I had seen! I'd love to get back there someday. Can't wait to see more!

Bob and I have been to Venezia and felt the EXACT same way as you. It's one of the most gorgeous, take your breath away, places on earth! I loved your post as it brought back many wonderful memories!

Blogger's letting me comment, so I need to do it quickly before it shuts me out again. Your photos are wonderful. I didn't get to Venice when I was in Italy, but the rest of the country is so wonderful. Venice has to be also. I'm so glad you got a time away with your hubby.
I never wanted to see Venice because I always saw it a a tourist-kitschy place.

Love the splashes of color from the flowers on the balconies in the first photo. Really nice shots.
I really like the window shot with the flowers. The lion door knocker is great too and I really like that it's not centered.
Anna, Windows instead of doors...hmmm yes indeed they are very (much more) awsome in Venice, you saw the typical Italian flowers ( in windows) Doors are a bit small/low haha!

Okay... I admit to a problem. One which I own. No matter how charming the image of Venician canal scenes I cannot help wondering what these folks do about all that water in their basements?
No, that's not a wisecrack. I know that water rots and attracts mold. As lovely as it is as a softener of harsh artistic lines, to actually live with it as osmosis-like it works its way through my walls, floors and ceilings. Well... brrrrrrr.
Darn, I'm not enough of a romantic to go to Venice am I?
