Hues of India

Dandia Dancing
May 2007

My iTunes: The River by Good Charlotte

I promised you more images from the Garba, so here we go. I hope that through these shots, you might get a sense of the sights and sounds from the evening....

The first image is of the dancing. I just love all the colors in this shot! The mood is so festive and it put a smile on my face as soon as I saw it. It is almost a form of line dancing and you hit the sticks together with the person across from you as both lines move to the music. Very fun!

The second image is of Sadie in her pink and gold lehnga. She looked beautiful and had been preparing her outfit since February. As you can tell, she fit right in with everyone else.

The third image is a shot showing one of the many ways we decorated. The candlelight and the pretty Spring flowers really gave the room a warm glow and refreshing feeling. As night fell, the room was so cozy thanks to a few lovely touches like this one.

The fourth image is of just one of the many children that were there that night. These children are wonderful dancers and why shouldn't they be? They have been learning since they could walk. Isn't she precious?

OK, OK....for those of you doubters...here it is...the fifth image is my better half and me. So you see, I DID put down my camera! :) And check out the henna on my hands!

Hope you enjoyed these!

There's just something so elegant about the saris and decor of India. My wife has lamented on several occasions that it would seem strange for her to dress like this here.

Also, I'm thrilled to finally see the face behind the lens. You all looked beautiful

I have done wedding flowers for Indian women, and the colors and designs on their sarees are so gorgeous. These are no exception! Both you and Sadie look fabulous (your color is great!)

How is a lengha different from a sari?

A lehnga is a floor length skirt, cropped top and scarf.....

A saree is one long piece of fabric...

Great pics Anna. It reminds me of how humble and kind these folks were. Do they produce any tapes or CD's of their music that we can get? Dad

Sadie looks fantastic in that picture, Anna. The angle you got on her face was perfect. Both her eyes and the dress jump out at you.

I love the henna on your hands. You look quite Indian and blend in well. BTW, I might be moving to Louisville in the coming year. Didn't you mention that you lived there at one time, Anna?

Anna,

I love the henna on your hands. I've always wanted to have that done. Did you have your feet done, too? :)

I have a good friend I met in China who is from India. Let me just say we miss her curry and nan bread almost as much as we miss her! Every time we came over, she cooked and we feasted. She is one of my family's favorite people, and we miss her very much!

Thanks for the pictures. They brought back great memories.

Hi Anna,

I have come across your blog today for the first time..and m very happily surprised to see that you and other people in west love and take to the Indian Culture and Tradition so much... i am an Indian myself and equally love these vibrant festivals, lights, candle, diyas and ofcourse henna also know as Mehandi. This is a very sacred custom of putting henna on the bride's hand on her day of marriage.
If you want I can send you some photographs of India and Indian Marriges.
BTW you and Saddie are looking gorgeous in Indian attire.
you can get in touch with me on mugdhamishra26@gmail.com.
