A Day for Me

Today was the last day that all the kids will be in formal school here. Sadie's last day was today and next Friday is the last day for the boys'. After that we are homeschooling. I am looking forward to this next chapter starting with the kids. I am also a bit nervous. That being said I have been looking forward this day of mindless wandering all by myself. When I go into the city here it is like being on vacation. It is exhilarating and vibrant! The perfect remedy for a tired wife and a mom of three.

I took this picture as I came out from the Underground in Trafalgar Square to start my day. I was so excited as I breathed in the cold, brisk, city air. And after days of high gusty winds (you may have heard about it on the news) the skies were perfectly blue with white clouds scattered throughout. Breathtaking. Another treat was getting to meet up with a new friend for lunch. It wouldn't be a real day away without a bit of fellowship and I really enjoyed myself...no schedule, no worries and good conversation. The first word that comes to mind to describe this photo is anticipation. I was feeling that as I walked up these steps and looked up.

What a wonderful day...

glad to hear you had such a great day....we all need those "days out" without kids to be refreshed. i don't get them very often as my son is still at home and we don't have any family around to watch him if i want to get out. that will all change this fall when he starts school....bittersweet!

Anticipation is a wonderful thing; often better than the fulfillment of it. I am glad to know that you had that today and that you enjoyed being with your new friend.

I love how the image transitions from the dark, almost black stairwell to the bright and airy blue sky and clouds. Excellent contrast. And of course, the lines...

This is a brilliant picture, Anna. Lighting, composition, and that lovely twist of the airs...all perfectly captured. But what sticks in my mind is how the deep underground connects to the soaring sky. Almost as if there's nothing in between to get in the way.

Great photography evokes emotional responses. This one does, and it takes me right back to my formative years in Montreal. I wish I had carried a camera then to grab moments like this in the city's Metro subway system.

Keep shooting...

The kids are still too young for school, but I'm already starting the "great debate" in my head.

Formal schooling or home schooling. I just don't know. The thought of having a whole 8 hrs. to myself every day is intoxicating! But, my little babies. . . big bullies at school. . .less time for individual learning. . I don't know what we'll do. I have another year, anyway, I guess.
